Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a safe, mild anxiolytic that helps children feel calm and relaxed. It’s ideal for children who are anxious about coming to see us. Your child will place a small mask on his or her nose, then a warm, comforting sensation spreads throughout the body. Your son or daughter is fully awake and able to follow directions and tell us how he or she is feeling. After the treatment, Dr. Keta will administer pure oxygen and the nitrous oxide will have no effects or lasting drowsiness on your child.
Outpatient General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is reserved for severe cases or exceptionally complex/lengthy procedures. This method is ideal for children with extreme dental fear, physical/mental special needs, and uncooperative tendencies. Your child will be put to sleep by an anesthesiologist at the hospital and Dr. Keta will complete high quality restorative dental work. General anesthesia protects your child's psyche as he or she will be completely unaware and have no memory of the dental treatment. Dr. Keta has been using this approach for years at both Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Lurie Children's Hospital, and she's happy to offer this service at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Neenah, WI.
